Hill and Campau

Just read a review of the new album by James Hill and Don Campau "The Only Way To Fly". Nice to see someone from the 80s/90s cassette scene getting some critical attention! It seems fairly rare these days. Actually, it was rare in those days too! I'm speaking of Don Campau here since I don't know much about James Hill, other than his excellent trumpetry on this album (I don't think "trumpetry" is a word but, why not). Campau has been putting out highly eclectic and consistently interesting music, largely under the radar, for decades. I almost said "toiling in obscurity" but that's not right. Don is well-known within the cassette culture scene but he, like many dedicated "home-tapers", deserves to be better known outside of that scene.

Anyway, I won't review "The Only Way To Fly" here. You can read the review previously linked to (Daniel Barbiero writing for Avant Music News). I'll just say this is an enjoyable and fascinating album put together in an unusual way that highlight's Campau's brilliant, sensitive and inventive arrangements and production.
