WEB

Image
Time for some synth-y 70s vibes! This review in Avant Music News caught my eye when I realized that one of the members of the trio WEB , Ernie Morgan, was also (allegedly) in the band The Strawberry Alarm Clock (I say "allegedly" because I have no personal memory of Morgan being in TSAC and the wikipedia entry on TSAC lists no less than 22 members and past members, none of whom are Ernie Morgan. BTW, I will eventually talk about my interest in psychedelia in future blog posts. It's significant). We have the label Modulisme to thank for the release of these previously unheard recordings and they are enjoyable. I can't say that they are better than many other electronic music recordings of the period but they have merit (I particularly like the live/improv feel) and will definitely do the trick if this is what you're looking for. https://modulisme.bandcamp.com/album/modulisme-session-067 https://modulisme.bandcamp.com/album/modulisme-session-060 - W.A.Davison

People Like Us

Image
It should come as no surprise that I'm a fan of Vicki Bennett , a.k.a. People Like Us , and I will likely post multiple links to her work in the coming months. Of immediate interest, however, is a full day of People Like Us radio art programming happening tomorrow, June 23rd, as part of Radio Art Zone 100 Days Of Radio . https://radioart.zone/ Lots of other great shows lined up as part of this event. Be sure to check out the full schedule. - W.A.Davison

Le Non_Jazz

Image
Just a quick shout out to Paris concert series Le Non_Jazz . I'm including a couple of recent event posters here. The series has been running for many years and is always worth attending if you are in Paris and into noise and experimental sounds. The organizer (who shall be referred to here as Jedric) was the perfect host when I played the series in 2013. We were paid, we were fed, our technical requirements were met...Jedric even arranged last-minute lodgings for my partner and I! I can't say enough good things about the organizer and the series itself. Vive Le Non_Jazz! https://nnjzz.tumblr.com/ - W.A.Davison

Scanner

Image
Very nice and very recent livestreamed set by Scanner . I met Robin in London in 1994 when Brian Damage (Phycus) and I were in the UK doing shows with Istvan Kantor/Monty Cantsin/Amen. Brian and I spent several days in London shopping some demos around to various labels and record stores. We met Robin for coffee/tea and spent an hour or so chatting. Lovely chap. - W.A.Davison

P16.D4

Image
My friend Jim Evans (Sparkle Girl) posted this find on Facebook a little while ago. P16.D4 are an old favourite of mine, as is pretty much anything on the P16.D4-related Selektion label! - W.A.Davison

Banananananana

These guys just played in Toronto and I missed them. Dammit! Well, they are Hamilton-based so, presumably, there will be other opportunities for me to see them live. In the meantime, I'm enjoying their Bandcamp offerings. https://banananananana.bandcamp.com/ - W.A.Davison
